Nell Collins McAnally, 93, of Eastland, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Comanche Medical Center.

Graveside service was held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Bear Springs Cemetery in Eastland County with Joe Bernier officiating.

Mrs. McAnally was born March 12, 1920 in Flatwood Community.  Her grandfather, W. C. McGough, was one of the first settlers in Eastland County.  She graduated from Carbon High School and attended Tarleton State University.  She and William, a Tennessee native, married on December 30, 1943.  He preceded her in death in 2004.  They lived in Florida, Arizona and Mississippi, but spent most of their married lives in her beloved Texas.

Having worked during WWII on an airbase in Midland and in a munitions factory in Arizona, she was a licensed insurance and real estate agent.  Mrs. McAnally was the first woman on an Eastland County grand jury after voters approved an amendment to the Texas Constitution allowing women to serve in 1954.

She is survived by her children, Nell Kennedy and husband, Charles of Olden and William McAnally, Jr. and wife, Carol of Colmbus, MS, as well as nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Merle Hubbard and her husband.

The family would like to thank the staff of Homestead Nursing & Rehabilitation in Gorman for their care of Mrs. McAnally during her final days.
