Martha Lou Webb Schooler, age 83, of Abilene, Texas died November 9, 2009 in Abilene.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, November 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Eastland.  Burial followed at Eastland Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home and conducted by Joe Bond and Ken Norris.

Martha was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, the only child of Charles Matt Webb and Mary Norman Webb.  She moved with her family to West Texas when she was a teenager.  She graduated from Monahans High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Hardin-Simmons University, where she was a member of the Cowgirl organization and was secretary treasurer of the student body.  In June 1946, she married Clifton Bailey Schooler in Little Rock, Arkansas.  During their marriage they lived in Abilene, Dallas, Odessa and Eastland County, Texas.  She taught school in Odessa and Carbon, retiring in 1990 after 34 years of teaching.  She had been a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Iota teacher rganizations, and Texas Retired Teachers.  In 1988 she was a finalist for Texas Teacher of the year, she was listed in Outstanding American Educators.  After retiring, she and Clifton returned to Abilene.  She continue4d her hobby of china painting.  She was a Christian and a member of Wylie Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, M. Kent Schooler, and her parents.

Survivors are her husband, Clifton, a daughter, Marilyn Schnooler Edwards, two grand-daughters and a great-grandchild.
