Velsie Pearl Rawson, 92, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at The Woodlands in Eastland, Texas.  Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Branch President, Larry May; burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kimbrough Funeral Home.  Visitation with the family will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Velsie was born in DeLeon on January 1, 1920, to Homer and Iva Lorena Hampton Wood.  She graduated from Cisco High School and received a bachelor's degree from Hardin Simmons University, she later received her Master's Degree from Texas Women's University.  She traught England and Speech at Putnam and Carbon schools and was later librarian from the Regional Education Center serving school in Gorman, Carbon, Moran and Rising Star.  She married Norman Earl Rawson in Eastland on November 28, 1940.  She was a long time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

She was a member of Eastland County Retired Teachers Association and Eastland County Historical Commission.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Vann and husband Robert of Huntsville, Texas and Jamie Stillwell and husband V. Clyde of Cisco; sister, Daisy Slaton of Gorman; grandchildren, Robert Earl Vann, Shannon Higbie, Sharon D. Vann, David L. Vann, Diane Richerson, Jordona Perritt-Schmenk, V. Clyde Stillwell III, Jason Stillwell, Jared Stillwell, John Stillwell, Heath Stillwell, and Kenneth Stillwell; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Rawson, a son Kenneth Rawson and grandson, Norman Stillwell.
