Graveside services for Dixie Sandlin Verkamp, 85, of Lufkin, Texas, were held in Lubbock, Friday, April 23, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery.  She died in Lufkin on Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at Woodland Height Hospital.

Dixie was born in Carbon, Texas, August 30, 1918, and was a graduate of Carbon High School and Draughn's Business College.  She lived in Lubbock from 1949 until 2001.  She had been employed by General Telephone Co. and Lubbock Independent School District.  She was a member of Southerest Baptist Churcn and Laura Francis Sunday School Class.

She married Milton Sandlin in 1941, and he died in 1970.  In 1972, she married Richard Verka who died in 1979.

Survivors inclujde her son, Michael (Mike) Don Sandlin and wife, Tami, of Lufkin; a grandson, Michael (Dylan) Sandlin of Lufkin; two brothers, George Henry Boles of Odessa and James William Boles of Levelland, Texas
