David Wood

Mr. David Dale Wood, age 71 of Malone, passed away on June 12, 2016.  He was born November 4, 1944  in Fort Worth to the late Ernest Raymond and Margaret Corynne (Gatherings) Wood.  He married Addie Mae Doty on December 15, 1972 and they shared over 43 years of their lives together while loving each other.  David was a teacher, a coach and an administrator for 34 years; serving the first 14 years in Covington and the last 20 years in Malone.  He previously served on the Malone City Council, as Mayor of Malone and as as Master Mason with the Covington Masonic Lodge.  David considered himself one of the luckiest men on earth because of a wife and family who always loved him and stuck by him; also for his many friends that he really enjoyed  knowing throughout the years.  He always liked saying, "No Man is a Failure Who Has Friends."  During the last months of his life, while battling lung cancer, he had received support through hundreds of friends and family on Facebook, cards and phone calls.  He felt like he was able to attend his own memorial with his family and friends and  it really touched his heart and prolonged his life.  He wanted everyopne to know it was time to end the sadness and grieving and remember him with a smile on his face.

He is survived by his loving wife, Addie Mae Wood,; step-son Randy Quattlebaum of Amarillo; step-daughters, Paula Quattlebaum of Lubbock and Dianna (DeDe) Tillery and husband, Clay of Denton; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, four great-great grancdhildren; sister-in-law, Betty Wood of Abilene; nephew, Charles Wood and wife,Athena and niece, Linda Wood and her husband of Cleburne.

At his request there will be no memorial service.  The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
