I graduated at age 16. I wanted to go to college but was without money to do so. My parents had very little as well. I decided to go to San Antonio and work a year save my money then go to Texas A&M which I did. On or about November 2 the USA passed the 18 year old draft. Knowing I would not be able to stay in school very long decided to leave school and join the Air Corp. My parents agreed. I wanted to fly and shoot and this is what I did. Was in the 8th Air Corp stationed in England at Polebrood in the 351 Bomb Group. Was a tail gunner on a B-17 Bomber. I flew 35 missions against German and German held territory.
After the war was over I came back to SA and worked for the Western Union again. Here I met my future wife Tena. She also worked for the Western Union. We married Novermber 22, l947. Early in the fifties we decided to go to West Texas and work in the oil fields and get rich. I worked for Gulf Oil 36 years and Tena worked at various oil related bussiness. We did not get rich however.
God blessed our 61 years of family life. Some very sad. Some very happy. Kent has added Ginger and two grand sons. Collin 13 yrs and Sam 10 yrs. They are a great addition to our family.
