Carol passed away on Sept. 4, 2009 at the age of 71 years old. I will miss my oldest brother but I know that he is in Heaven with our Heavenly Father. Carol loved his family, God and his class of l956.

Carol and I began our friendship when we were in Primary Class at Sunday School, Carbon Baptist Church. Carol had a hat like his dad's and he would sit in class, cross his legs, and place his hat on his knee as he had seen Dulin do. I will never be able to attend Carbon church without seeing Carol there in my memory. We started school together in 1944 and graduated together in 1956. He will, indeed, be missed.

I appreciate Carol for the great friend that he was! The first time I met him was when I started to school at Carbon in 1953. Although I'm just a few days older than Carol, he was in the class ahead of me when I started at Carbon.

More recently, since I had followed the carpenter trade, I contracted to work on a local friend's house in Gorman and Carol volunteered to come over and help me with the project without accepting any pay for his help.

After that he also volunteered to help me transport a six wheel van from Corsicana, Texas to our place in Gorman. The only pay he would accept for furnishing the duly and large trailer to transport the van on, plus his personal labor, was the price of the fuel and the two meals that he and I shared in the process! Would you call that a friend, or what?

The last time I saw Carol was at the Carbon Golden Exes get together last year. We sat next to each other at meal time for a nice conversation.

At the end of our meal Carol said, "J.V. I'm going to get some dessert, would you like for me to bring something back for you?"

"Yes," I told him, "If its something sweet, I will probably like it!"

He brought me a piece of pecan pie!

I don't think there is anyone who knew Carol that will not miss him! However, our loss is his gain!

When the apostle Paul came to the end of his life, he expressed himself this way: "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

The apostle Paul knew that this was a fact that not only applied to him, but to all who live Godly lives in Christ Jesus!

That's one more reason to appreciate Carol!
