J. L. Maynard - Class Of 1954

J. L. Maynard

J. L. Maynard, age 72, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2010.  Graveside funeral services were held on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 11:00 am at Brown Cemetery in Eastland County under the direction of the Summers-Bakker Funeral Home.

J. L. Maynard, known to friends as Stubby, was born on July 26, 1937, in Carbon, Texas to Melvin and Velma (Johnson) Maynard.  He served his Country in the United States Army from 1960-1962.  He was a farmer his entire life.  When he was younger he worked on a large farm in Eastern Oklahoma and loved to recount old stories from this time in his life to his nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.  J. L. loved to feed the fish in the many tanks, put out feed for the various animals that ventured into his yard, and place water bowls for the birds to drink from.  He found his peace in the land and animals that surrounded him.  He was fond of saying that everything he ever needed to know he learned from "the good book" and he liked to recite scripture when he was in deep thought.  We are blssed to know that the long list of quesitons he had for God are not being answered.

J. L. fought his final battle with lung cancer with courage, optimism and humor.  He knew that he was loved while he was on this planet and he knew that love and freedom awaited him when he passed.  We will miss you Stubby and are so grateful to have had you to love.

He is survived by his siblings, Walter Maynard of Eastland, Velma Carson of May, Eldon Maynard of Murphy and Gene Maynard of May; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials in J. L.'s name may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Southwestern Medical Simmons Cancer Center in Dallas.
