Jerry L. May 76, of Stephenville, died Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in Stephenville, doing what he loved most...playing golf with his buddies at the Legends Country Club.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, December 14th at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Rusty Rose and Dr. Ken May officiating. Burial will follow with Masonic rites at 3:30 PM at Murray Cemetery near Carbon, TX. Visitation will begin at Noon, Friday, one hour prior to the 1:00 PM service time, with the May family.

Jerry was born on March 1, 1942 in Fort Stockton, Texas to the late Bud and Ellen Lee Long May. His family soon moved to Eastland County where Jerry attended public school at Carbon, graduating from Carbon High School in 1960. Jerry played basketball while attending Cisco Jr. College from 1960 to 1961, attended Tarleton State from 1961 to 1962, and later moved to Lubbock, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Texas Tech University in 1965. On December 22, 1961, Jerry married the love of his life, Sandra Kay McDaniel in Carbon.

After graduation from Texas Tech, Jerry taught and coached at Smiley Wilson Jr. High School in Lubbock from 1965 until 1968. Switching careers, he accepted a position with the USDA/FSA as the County Office Director in Rains County, Texas. His 32 year career as a County Director and District Director would take him to Knox City, Coleman, and Stephenville, Texas. Jerry and Kay spent several years in Coleman, where they raised their children and were active in the Coleman First Baptist Church, Jerry serving as Deacon. While in Coleman, Jerry became a member of the Coleman Masonic Lodge #496. In 1988 Jerry and Kay moved to Stephenville, and became members of the First Baptist Church. He continued to work for the FSA until his retirement in 2000.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Kay; son, David and wife Janna May of Waco; daughter, Jill and husband Darrell Kroll of Waco; grandchildren, Macy Renee May of Lubbock, David Austin May of Waco, Alissa and husband James Plummer of Waco, and Karissa and Judy Kroll of Dallas; great grandchildren, Landon and Owen Plummer, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his parents, Jerry was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda May Lauer, and two brothers, Gene and Joe Paul May.
