Lena Mae Hawkins - Class Of 1949

Lena Mae (Eaves-Woodard) Hawkins, age 82, went home to be with her Lord Monday, June 23, 2014.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early, Texas.  Burial followed at the Eastlawn Cemetery in Early.

Lena was born August 28, 1931, in Merkel, Texas, to A. B. (Buddy) and Ruby Neill Eaves.  She graduated High School in Carbon, Texas.  Lena Mae lived several different places in Texas but spent most of her time in Abilene and Brownwood.  She retired from the State of Texas having worked for the TXDot and Abilene ISD.  Lena also worked for Sears while in Abilene and again worked for TXDot after moving to Brownwood.  She met and was married to Dale Hawkins July 2, 1988, in Brownwood.  Lena loved her family especially her daughters and loved to aggravate her nieces and nephews.  She enjoyed knitting and quilting.  Lena was a member of Coggin Ave. Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents; a sister,
Barbara Lenz; and two brothers, Richard Wayne Eaves and Bill Eaves.  She is also preceded in death by a much loved son, Emmittt David Woodard.

Lena is survived by her husband, Dale Hawkins of Blanket; daughters, Janet Clark and husband Mark of Highland Village, Annette Hopper and husband, Norman of Colorado City; one grandson, Timothy Clark and wife Janie of Hawaii; step-grandchildren, Jackie Hanabass, Mandy Fike and husband, Leon, Jeffery Hopper and wife Heather; and four step-great-grrandchildrren.  Lena is also survived by one brother,  Tommy Eaves of Carbon; sisters, Mary Webb of Cross Plains, and Linda Lorance of Carbon; and numeroous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Lena was loved in life and she will be missed in  death.
